Washington High School, known more formally as Booker T. Washington High School was constructed in 1982 and houses over 1,800 students, 116 faculty members, 60 non-instructional personnel, two assistant principals and (of course) a principal.
The physical plant is designed with seven acres under one contiguous roof and includes its own indoor pool. The one-level building has an exterior design of stucco and brick.
A few of BTWHS's academic accomplishments include, but are not limited to, being named one of the top five high schools in the state of Florida by the Education Commission; offering an Archaeology Institute in cooperation with the University of West Florida and Pensacola Junior College; and receiving the Five Star School Award (logging over 35,000 volunteer hours last year).
There are many other curricular opportunities for basic, advanced, dual enrollment and gifted students at BTWHS.
BTWHS has also excelled in their athletic activities of winning baseball, basketball, cross country, football, golf, soccer, softball, swimming/diving, tennis, track, volleyball, and weightlifting teams.
Congratulations are due to the BTWHS Boy's Swimming (2003 season) for winning 2nd place in the District, and to Morgen Farrell for winning 3rd and 4th place in the State!
